When compared to the national average, Washington’s crime rates represent a bit of an anomaly. The state’s violent crime rate (3.55 incidents per 1,000 people) is lower than the national rate (4.49) but Washington is more than 10 points higher than the national average when it comes to property crime, with 38.44 incidents per 1,000 people.
